Sculpt, Cast and Paint: Mask Making Workshop - 3 Days
Class Description:
October 17, 18 & 24 | 3:00–6:00 PM
3 Sessions | 9 Hours Total
Design, sculpt, cast, and paint your own wearable mask in this three-day hands-on workshop!
Starting with a face form, you’ll learn how to build and sculpt a wearable mask from the ground up, adding character through exaggerated features, horns, teeth, textures, and other details. Your sculpture will then be molded in plaster, cast in resin, and brought to life with paint and finishing techniques.
Whether you’re dreaming up something spooky, silly, monstrous, or completely strange, this workshop will take your idea from a lump of clay to a finished wearable mask.
Day 1 — Sculpting Your Mask
Learn the fundamentals of sculpting a wearable mask. Using a face mold as your base, you’ll establish the overall shape, proportions, features, and character of your design.
Day 2 — Details, Add-Ons & Mold Prep
Push your design further with details and add-ons such as horns, teeth, wrinkles, textures, and other sculptural elements.
We’ll finish the session by preparing the completed clay sculptures for plaster mold-making and resin casting.
Day 3 — Painting & Finishing
Your mask has been cast in resin, ready to be transformed! Learn painting and finishing techniques to add colour, depth, texture, and personality before taking home your completed mask.
Mask Size & Design Guidelines
To keep material use within the workshop fee, masks should stay approximately within:
9–12" long × 6" wide × 2" deep
Designs outside these parameters may require an additional material fee depending on their size and casting complexity.
All masks will be sculpted in clay, molded in plaster, and cast in resin. Keep in mind that the plaster mold-making process may not capture super, incredibly small or delicate details. So we'll enhance them in the painting process! Your instructor can help you determine what will translate well into the final resin cast as you develop your design.
What to Bring
Come prepared with ideas! We strongly encourage bringing sketches, printed reference photos, drawings, inspiration, or other visual references to help you and your instructor achieve your spooky and silly mask dreams.

All clay and sculpting materials, plaster mold-making, resin casting, paints and finishing materials, use of studio tools, and 9 hours of guided instruction are included.
